2001 HIGHLIGHTS
The 2000-2001 season was the inaugural season for the Rhode Island Junior Volleyball Club. The club consisted of 2 teams in the Under 12 Division. One in Northern RI coached by Diane Short the women’s volleyball coach at Brown University and former URI player, and one in Southern RI coached by Bob Schneck and Jill Haas. The South team began without having any prior volleyball experience. Matches consisted of the best of 3 games. The RI Juniors South team took many losses early on in the season. As the season progressed the team began winning games and eventually matches. The South team ended the season with claiming the Regional Championship Title defeating Swansea, who was undefeated and had not lost an individual game all season. The South team won the match in 2 games and advanced to the finals where they met up with the Rhode Island Juniors North team. The South team won the championship in 2 games!!! This was a great accomplishment for the Rhode Island Juniors Club program to have both of it’s first year teams place 1st & 2nd in the league!! Just shows the quality of coaching that is within the club.
